WORDS of Interest

With reference to this simple black-and-white (largely) website, spare is an obvious choice as an adjective. However, it is one of those little English words that live a complicated life as either a noun, a verb, or an adjective. So, that’s worth bearing in mind in this context. Sparse is less commonly used and is a borrowing from Latin. Etymons: Latin sparsus, spargĕre. Etymology: Latin sparsus, past participle of spargĕre to scatter. Compare Italian; sparso. The OED hasn’t yet caught up with sparsity. See link.
