The Future of Museums
I wrote this paper during the COVID-19 lockdown in 2020 and 2021 in response to a Brief concerning the future of the museum provision in Bristol. It discusses the financial crisis caused by the Lockdown and the events surrounding the removal of the statue of Edward Colston from the centre of the City.
The paper uses the Brief and the City of Bristol as the framework to consider, in the widest sense, what a 21st-century museum should be and what it cannot be. I’ve done no further work on it since Lockdown, and I am happy to discuss any points raised.
